In our never-ending quest to find the best smart plugs on the market, we’ve currently landed on the Eve Energy Smart Plug. We have been trying to find the best Matter over Thread plug since identifying Thread as the best smart home protocol for most devices in 2025.

At the time of this writing, the plug is priced at $35 new on Amazon. We know this is on the higher-end of the price range for smart plugs. There are lots of Wi-Fi smart plug options which are cheaper, however only a hand-full support Thread, and all the rest introduce lots of risk.

The ease of setup, reliability and feature qualities of the Eve Energy plug set it apart from the rest. As an example, the plug maintains it’s state (i.e. on or off) when it loses power. This means when the electricity comes back on, it returns to it’s previous state. This is very important for some applications in your smart home.

We are excited this plug can be used with Matter over Thread, our preferred protocol. During our testing it was extremely easy to discover and add to whatever ecosystem you choose.

Although it is a bit pricer than other options on the market, the Eve Energy Smart Plug has passed all of our tests with flying colors. We are planning to replace all our other smart plugs with these over the course of the coming months.
