In our ongoing effort to identify the best smart plugs on the market, we’ve currently landed on what we believe is the top Matter-over-Thread option available in 2025: the Eve Energy Smart Plug.
At the time of writing, it’s priced at $35 on Amazon, placing it on the higher end of the smart plug price spectrum. While there are plenty of cheaper plugs, very few support Thread, and the rest introduce unnecessary security risks, reduced reliability, and higher latency—issues you simply don’t encounter with a Thread-based device.
What sets the Eve Energy plug apart is its exceptional reliability, effortless setup, and thoughtful feature design. One example: it retains its last known state (on or off) during a power outage. When electricity is restored, the plug automatically returns to the correct state. This is a critical capability for many smart-home applications—whether you’re powering heaters, sump pumps, lamps, fans, or other equipment where unexpected activation (or inactivity) could cause problems.
We’re also happy to report that the Eve Energy Smart Plug integrates seamlessly with Matter over Thread, our preferred smart home protocol for 2025. In our testing, it was immediately discoverable and added to every ecosystem we tried without effort or troubleshooting.
Although slightly pricier than competing options, the Eve Energy Smart Plug has met or exceeded every expectation in our testing. Because of its reliability, Matter/Thread support, and overall quality, we’re planning to transition all of our smart plugs to Eve Energy units over the coming months.
