The Ecolink Z-Wave Wireless Audio Detector (FF-ZWAVE5-ECO) is a nice device that can be added to any Z-Wave compatible hub. This device will listen for smoke or CO alarms that occur within a short distance of the device and send alerts through your smart home system. This device would need to be installed within 6″ of the alarm that it will listen to.

The advantage and disadvantage of this device is the fact that it is wireless. On one hand it can be added to any home, regardless of the smoke alarm setup in the house. However, with any wireless device there will be a certain level of unreliability – either because the battery is low/dead or because of a connectivity problem with the hub, etc.

If you have a hardwired alarm system in your house, we recommend the Z00z 800 series Z-Wave DC Signal Sensor. But if you don’t have a hardwired system this is a great option to get alerts sent to you remotely.
